Weekly Troop Meeting (January 8, 2007)

First Aid is a valuable life skill. Knowing basic First Aid can save a life and reduce the need for additional medical care.

Do you know what to do for a person with a broken bone?

One of our Assistant Scout Masters was in the right place at the right time. He helped a group properly prepare a person with a broken leg before moving her. As he came upon the accident, the group was about to have the person try to "walk" to a car before assessing the injury. This would have caused additional, and unnecessary, injury to the person, and think of the pain the person would have experienced!

Tenderfoot, 2nd class, and 1st class have basic First Aid requirements. Knowing basic First Aid is also a requirement for several merit badges such as, Camping, Swimming, Cycling, Hiking, Sports, etc. Additionally, the First Aid Merit Badge is a requirement for Eagle Scout.

If you were the injured party, wouldn't you want someone to know and be able to administer First Aid? You can be that person, for yourself and for someone else!

While January and February meetings are being dedicated to this important skill, first aid instruction will be a continuing activity. The first learning session happened January 8.

No, the glass in our arms and the cuts don't hurt, but let's hope those younger guys come to our aid soon!

Okay, still waiting on those
younger Scouts!
